Day 18
"Car emissions" (2021) was a very peculiar case in the Vestager era - celebrated by some as a milestone in sustainability and innovation antitrust, criticised by others as a non-case. The circle of 5 German car producers settled with fines. But they also received an additional letter by Olivier Guersent. What did he write?
He made it clear that - in the Commission's view - other talks held by the car companies were okay.
He assured them that the Commission will stick to the end date set for the combustion engine.
He encouraged them to seek compensatory solutions with customers, not least to avoid legislative measures on public enforcement of consumer laws.
He told them of an experience he had with a self-driving car from Alphabet.
